Transitioning out of illegalization: Cross-border mobility experiences

It is known that opportunities to cross borders legally, acquired through regularization programs, are acknowledged by previously illegalized migrants as one of the main positive effects obtaining a residence permit. However, impact these policies has rarely been investigated “mobility lens.” To fulfill this gap, study aims, case study, (1) assess how permit after having endured years illegalization affects migrants' cross-border mobility and (2) identify direct indirect transformative triggered changes in mobility. Our analysis considers transformation regimes which individual trajectories embedded. Thirty-nine transitioning out an extraordinary program implemented between 2017 2018 Canton Geneva, Switzerland, were interviewed twice at time interval more than 1.5 years.
